The Population Density of New York City

Just how many people live in New York City? If you don't count the estimated 61.8 million tourists who visit the area each year, New York City is home to 8.6 million people in an area that's only slightly bigger than 300 square miles! New York City's population density (27,013 people per square mile) is much bigger than most metropolitan areas in the United States! Manhattan's population density alone (69,468 people per square miles) even dwarfs other packed places across the world, like Paris and Hong Kong.
